Tesla boss calls on employees to speed up production: he wants a vehicle record

Steph Deschamps / September 21, 2020

Elon Musk, the whimsical boss of electric car maker Tesla, is calling on his employees to work harder in the weeks to come. We need as many vehicles as possible to leave factories by the end of September, when the current quarter ends, so that these three months constitute a new production record, he wrote in an e-mail addressed to its staff.

"But we are going to have trouble reaching this record," he warns. "Consider the delivery of vehicles as a top priority," said Elon Musk in his letter entitled "All hands on deck ».

The company hopes to deliver half a million vehicles this year, and has already taken 179,000 off the production line in the first six months.

The 49-year-old boss has made a habit of sending emails to his staff at the end of quarters to boost productivity. He can also use this process as a signal to shareholders.

Tesla manufactures the S, X, 3, and Y models at its Fremont, California auto plant, and the Model 3 at its Shanghai giga-workshop.
