New Zealand: first death in six months

New Zealand recorded on the night of Friday to Saturday its first death related to Covid-19 in six months, a 90-year-old woman who had comorbidities and could not be ventilated or receive intensive care. She is the 27th person to die of Covid in the country and the first since February 16.

The death comes as health authorities said Saturday they had brought the latest wave related to the Delta variant under control.

Indonesia: leak of the president's vaccination certificate

The Indonesian president's coronavirus vaccination certificate was circulated on the internet, causing Indonesians to worry about the security of their medical data on Saturday.

President Joko Widodo's vaccination certificate, visible online, was released by users who found his medical data in an official vaccination tracking app, PeduliLindungi, according to the government.

Malaysia: the former Prime Minister at the head of the post-Covid recovery

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed head of the National Post-Pandemic Recovery Council, weeks after leaving power, the government announced saturday.

Muhyiddin Yassin had stepped down as head of government last month, after sharp criticism of his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

France: thousands of people in the streets against the health pass

Thousands of people took to the streets of many cities in France on Saturday to demonstrate against the health pass, a few days after the start of the school year and the launch of a vaccination campaign for the over 12s.

In Paris, where five rallies were scheduled, demonstrators marched from the foot of the Eiffel Tower to the Invalides at the call of the sovereignist movement of the Patriotes of Florian Philippot (former number two of the National Front).

The Covid-19 pandemic has killed more than 4.54 million people worldwide since the end of December 2019, according to a report made Saturday by AFP from official sources.

However, the pandemic has seen a slight slowdown at the global level this week, in terms of infections, with a decrease of 3% compared to the previous week, to 639,315 daily infections on average.

The situation continued to deteriorate in the United States/Canada zone (+8%) and especially in Oceania (+23%), but new infections are clearly falling in Africa (-26%) and Latin America (-17%). They are slowing down in Europe (-3%), Asia (-2%) and the Middle East (-2%).
