World Health Organization urges countries to step up measures to combat the surge in Covid cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged countries where the number of coronavirus cases is increasing to step up their restraint measures to combat the epidemic.
The earlier actions can be implemented, the fewer measures that potentially need to be taken, WHO Covid-19 expert Maria van Kerkhove stressed Friday in Geneva. She stressed that the Delta variant of the virus currently circulating is much more infectious than previous variants.
Several countries are in a difficult situation and must put in place very strict measures, said Mike Ryan, WHO's Director of Health Emergencies.
As usual, the UN organization did not name specific countries or comment on the actions of individual governments. Measures cited include the widespread use of masks, distancing oneself, ensuring good ventilation of indoor spaces, avoiding gatherings in small spaces, and telecommuting when possible.
