Suspected of killing his 4 and 7 year old sons, a father commits suicide in prison in France

His two sons, aged 4 and 7, were found dead last March in a car he is suspected of having set on fire in Vaudricourt, near Béthune. Their father committed suicide in prison on Tuesday night.
Three and a half months after the death of Achille and César, 7 and 5 years old, in Vaudricourt, near Béthune, their father committed suicide in prison, on Tuesday night. He was under investigation for murder, suspected of having set fire to the car where the children were.
At the time of the incident, the father had custody of his sons for the weekend and had to take them to school. At the time of the fire, he was found near the vehicle, seriously injured. The man was hospitalized, and on May 3, the improvement of his health allowed him to be placed in police custody.
He was then incarcerated in the psychiatric unit of the penitentiary, where his lifeless body was found. With his death, the prosecution will be terminated and there will be no trial. The mother of the two boys had asked for sole custody of the children, but her ex-partner had obtained in summary proceedings a right of custody for the weekend. A hearing of the family court judge was to take place in June.
