A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska on Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning, announced the US Geophysical Survey (USGS).
The epicenter of this magnitude 7.3 earthquake is located in the Pacific Ocean, 87 km south of Sand Point, a small village in the Shumagin Islands archipelago, according to the USGS. The current tsunami warning covers a large coastal region in southwest Alaska, including the Cook Gulf, but the warning zone stops just short of Anchorage, the most populous city in the vast, wild state.
