Joe Biden to Hold First Press Conference as President on Thursday

 Steph Deschamps / Mars 27, 2021

Joe Biden will give his first formal press conference as President of the United States on Thursday. According to the White House, thirty journalists will be accredited. Themes that should be discussed are the coronavirus pandemic and the migration crisis, including the increasing flow of minors at the southern border with Mexico.

In recent weeks, the Democrat's government has been under pressure on this issue. The sensitive issue has been placed in the hands of his vice president Kamala Harris. Washington does not refer to the border situation as a crisis, but rather as a challenge.

Since taking office, Joe Biden has fielded multiple questions from individual reporters on the sidelines of his travels, but has not yet addressed the press as a whole, as there has not yet been a press conference.

He did, however, reinstate the tradition of a daily open press briefing at the White House, during which spokeswoman Jen Psaki answers reporters' questions.

Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, had developed a different approach. For a long time, he did not hold press conferences, but regularly opened up to reporters. The Republican has often accused the media of spreading false information and being the enemy of the people.

The press conference will be held at 1:15 pm in Washington.
