Never say that again": Donald Trump has a new nickname... and he doesn't like it one bit

Sylvie Claire / June 1, 2025

Donald Trump, 78, is once again the talk of Wall Street, but this time it's not for his economic decisions. Financial Times columnist Robert Armstrong has coined a new moniker for the former president: “Taco”, an acronym for “Trump Always Chickens Out”.

This expression is intended to criticize Donald Trump's frequent about-faces, notably when he reverses his decisions as soon as the financial markets react negatively. An attitude described by some observers as a strategy of appeasement towards Wall Street, which Robert Armstrong has dubbed “the Taco theory”.

According to the editorialist, American investors have now integrated this way of acting, which would explain the drop in sudden fluctuations on the markets.

Asked about it in an interview, Donald Trump sharply rejected the nickname. “Me, chicken out? I've never heard that,” he said, visibly annoyed. He even called the question “a dirty question” and asked that it “never be repeated again”.

To justify himself, Donald Trump claimed that these changes of mind are part of a well-honed method: “It's called negotiation”, he declared, brushing aside critics by insinuating that it's a style of governance rather than a lack of courage.
