The first space tourists carried by the American company Virgin Galactic reached space on Thursday, announced the company founded by billionaire Richard Branson, fulfilling a promise made two decades ago.

The three passengers - Jon Goodwin, 80, Keisha Schahaff, 46, and daughter Anastatia Mayers, 18 - took off from New Mexico and were propelled to an altitude of over 80 km, the limit the US military says marks the beginning of space, a commentator announced on the company's live video feed.
