The images of shame in Italy: an individual filmed creating an arson in Montesarchio

Steph Deschamps / August 7, 2021

A man was caught in the act of arson in Italy. He is facing a very high risk.

The living bodies of a woman and a man were discovered in a farmhouse in San Lorenzo, Calabria. According to the Ansa news agency, they were trying to save an olive grove from the flames. Aircraft have been deployed in the area. Fires are ravaging the regions of Calabria, Sicily and Puglia, among others.

More than 70% of the numerous fires that affect Italy are caused by human beings, voluntarily or not, helped to a small extent by climate change, assured a few days ago the Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani.

Yesterday, Friday, the Italian police posted a video showing an individual setting fire to twigs in Montesarchio, Campania. The man, if caught, faces 10 years in prison. Two hectares of forest went up in smoke.
