Trump's daughter-in-law Lara also has political ambitions

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, plans to run for the Senate in her home state of North Carolina in 2022, US media reported Thursday.

 

The news, published in the New York Times and Politico, comes as the outgoing president still refuses to accept his loss to Joe Biden in the November 3 election.

 

Lara Trump, wife of Eric, the youngest son of the Republican billionaire, "told her associates that she was considering running for the Senate in 2022," the New York Times said, citing three "allies" who remained anonymous.

 

Current Republican Senator Richard Burr has announced that he will not be running for re-election.

 

The list of Republican candidates to replace him promises to be long, with Politico signaling that Mr. Trump's current chief of staff, Mark Meadows, former Gov. Pat McGory as well as incumbent Gov. Dan Forest are potential contenders.
